Description

Production and productivity are two themes at the heart of the issues of the French olive growing sector. Producing better and more regularly, ensuring that the hard work of olive farmers pays off and offering high quality products to fulfil consumer expectations: these are all challenges that the sector must address. And although not all the answers are evident, France Olive wishes to contribute a few keys to help stakeholders in the sector. 

  • 09.15: Labelling as a promotional tool for your olive oil, by Alexandra Paris, Communications Director - Economics, France Olive. Increasing the sales of olive oil involves better communications. The labelling of a product is the first aspect of this communication and is essential, if not imperative. Between regulatory obligations and customer expectations, it’s not always easy to find a way out!
  • 10.15: Fertilisation and irrigation: two assets for better productivity by Josep Rufat, agronomist, specialist in irrigation and ferti-irrigation at IRTA (Institut de Recherche régional de Catalogne spécialisé dans les productions fruitières et l'élevage).  While the olive tree is renowned for its hardiness, its production nevertheless depends on factors upon which olive growers can still act. Fertilisation and irrigation are two of these. What are current recommendations, how can they be implemented and with what resources?  
  • 11.30: Harvesting operations - Round table with Laurent Belorgey (olive farmer and chairman of France Olive) and Jean-Bernard Gieules (olive grower). Optimising the harvesting operation to fulfil several aims: harvesting better, harvesting in optimal conditions (ripeness, quality, etc,), being more productive and more profitable, etc. Olive growers will offer their first-hand experiences of their achievements and difficulties and discuss this important subject with the attendees.
