SITEVI 2009: an extremely successful event despite a tough business environment

Monday 11 January 2010

SITEVI, the world’s leading event for materials, equipment and services in the vine/wine and fruit/vegetables/olive sectors, was held in Montpellier (France) between 1 and 3 December 2009. The event once again proved to be a major hit with professionals in the sector:

- 716 exhibitors from 22 countries, major players in their fields, showcased more than 940 brands, offering a comprehensive range of materials, equipment, products and services.
- The 24th SITEVI attracted 44,592 visitors, with one in five from 48 countries outside France: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Tunisia, the UK, Ukraine, United States and many others.

“Given the figures and feedback from everyone - exhibitors, visitors and partners -SITEVI 2009 was an extremely successful event, despite a difficult business environment for the wine/vine and fruit/vegetables/olive sectors. We wanted to make SITEVI 2009 a key event where people could do business and discuss current issues. We achieved our target, and many exhibitors and visitors agreed deals during the event. Supported by the presence of the sector’s leading exhibitors, our committed partners and quality visitors, SITEVI proved once again that it is the world’s leading event in the vine/wine and fruit/vegetables/olive sector. We’re well on course to repeat this success in 2011”, said Martine Dégremont, manager of SITEVI.

Visitors with already-confirmed projects in the vine/wine sector
Wine growers and producers attended SITEVI in large numbers to discover the largest collection of grape-harvesting machines in the world, along with the latest innovations in the sector, including plants and grafts, tractors, crop-spraying, wine-tasting and wine-making, packaging and bottling equipment, marketing advice and more. Thanks to these new products and services, the majority of visitors have been able to put their plans into practice.

A larger number of exhibitors from a more diverse range of backgrounds for the fruit/vegetables/olive sector
This year saw an increase in exhibitor numbers of 34% compared with 2007. This increase was due in part to the new sectors represented at SITEVI 2009: olive-growing, cold stores, greenhouses and more. Most of the exhibitors in this sector were from countries with the largest fruit and vegetable output in Europe: Spain, France and Italy.

Renewable energies, a cutting-edge issue popular with visitors
The new area dedicated to renewable energies (Hall 14) proved to be extremely popular with exhibitors and visitors with already-confirmed projects, who enjoyed the opportunity to explore equipment related to rain water recovery, solar thermal and photovoltaic energy, small wind turbines, biomass, and more.

2009 events a major success: SITEVI confirmed its reputation as a useful and practical show
During the three-day show, more than 2,000 people took part in 19 talks, 20 workshops and 3 field visits. These events scored a satisfaction rate of around 95%. They provided professionals with practical and effective solutions to help them revitalize their products and services. It also provided an opportunity for the participants to exchange ideas about the vine/wine and fruit/vegetables/olive sectors more generally.
Companies presented with Innovation Awards win approval from visitors

A major showcase for innovations, SITEVI also offered professionals from across the world the opportunity to discover the latest innovations in the vine/wine and fruit/vegetables/olive sectors, including materials and equipment, new technologies and services designed to help them develop their production activities. As every year, the show rewarded 23 innovations selected by a panel of international experts during the Innovation Awards, with 3 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 13 special mentions awarded to companies from France and around the world. These much anticipated Awards help set the tone for future developments in these sectors. Four major trends emerged from the event: precision wine-growing - managing vineyards while limiting safety and environmental costs - wine-making processes - wine packaging and marketing.

SITEVI 2009 exhibitors have their say...

Pascal Popelier, Sales Director of Diam-Oeneo Bouchage.
"SITEVI 2009 gave us a chance to meet our customers in a welcoming environment and to showcase the latest products in the Diam cork range. We were able to answer queries from prospects, some from countries very far away, who wanted to know more about the innovative nature of our corks. A huge number of people visited our stand and it was an undeniable success.”

Eugenio Sartori, Managing Director of Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo
ldquo;Quite a few people visited our stand, including customers. The event was also an opportunity to confirm contracts that had already been discussed...”

Thomas Miler Marketing & Communication Manager for Caruelle Nicolas
"SITEVI 2009 was a great year for Caruelle Nicolas. This show was a wonderful opportunity to meet with our customers and prospects in optimal conditions in order to respond to their expectations and needs as best as possible. (...) We met with some very interesting prospects with short- and mid-term purchasing projects, which represents a major success for us.”

Olivier Fabbri, Managing Director of Fabbri.
“The atmosphere at the 2009 event was overall very positive. Visitors and prospects attended in large numbers with some highly developed projects, despite the recession; we really didn’t think we would get so many visitors to our stand. SITEVI closed on a hopeful note for the vine/wine sector; wine-growers and producers are now ready to plan for the future and, therefore, to start investing again.”

Chantal Durand, manager of Calibrex
“SITEVI 2009 was an extremely positive event for our company. During the show, we showcased a number of products, including our new electronic circular weight grading machine, Minigram 2.
