The "PreSens Fibox 3 LCD" trace meter is a device that allows for the measurement, by luminescence and in a non-invasive, non-destructive way, of the total concentration of oxygen (TCO = dissolved oxygen + oxygen in the headspace) in a bottle of wine.
The equipment is made up of an oxygen analyzer equipped with an optical fibre that channels light to a chip that is reactive to oxygen. The corresponding luminescence is then redispatched to the analyzer via the optical fibre, proportionally to the concentration of oxygen present around the sensor.
The analysis is non-destructive and there is now no need to open the bottle to perform it. No chemical reaction is required to determine the concentration of oxygen, unlike with electrochemical methods. Lastly, this facilitates the measurement of total oxygen.
It is now possible to fit glass mirrors (for example to tanks), making it possible to quickly and precisely control all operations in the cellar up until the moment of bottling. Knowing the precise level of dissolved oxygen helps the winemaker in choosing and making the best possible use of their equipment, and in determining the most suitable technical itineraries and input circuits (yeast, SO2, etc.) for their wine.
