The product of 15 years of research, "Multiplex Vigne™" is a portable, multi-parameter optical sensor capable of performing non-destructive, real-time measurements on grapes to determine the polyphenols present or induced, as well as chlorophyll content.
The system employs light-emitting diodes (LED) which light up the plant material to be analyzed in a range of colours (wavelengths). The plants absorb this light stream, then re-transmit optical signals of the intrinsic fluorescence present.
In the case of anthocyanins (located on the surface), the device measures the light retransmitted following absorption by the grape, in addition to deep chlorophyll.
The data are saved on a memory card before being downloaded into Excel. The results are then sent and interpreted.
Weighing just 2.8kg, "Multiplex Vigne™" is designed to allow for the monitoring of the phenolic maturity of grapes in the laboratory, or of bunches of grapes in the vineyard.
